An infusion prepared from certain cereals and vinegar obtained from citrus fruits is called Dhanayamlam . Njavara rice, Horse gram, millet, dried ginger, sliced citrus fruits and so on are bundled separately in linen bags and then immersed in a large pot containing hot water. The water is again boiled for specific period during which the extracts mix with water to make vinegar. Luke warm decoction is poured over the body from pitchers by two trained therapists with simultaneous massage. This can be done for whole body or for a specific area.

For continuous flow, a small device made of the shell of a coconut to which a cotton wick has been tied, is fixed inside. The wick which hangs down through the hole at the bottom guides the flow. A head band tied just above the ear level to prevent decoction flowing in to the eyes. When the decoction trickles down the wick starts to fall on the patients forehead, the therapist moves the vessel to and fro gently to ensure that the oil covers the entire region between the temples while he gently massages the area with his other hand. It can be done for the whole body also.

SnehaVasthiAdministration of vasthi predominantly consisting of herbal decoction is known as Niroohavasthi. The composition of the medicine administered in the form of vasthi includes herbal decoction ,medicatedoil,honey ,rock salt and herbal paste .Among these ingredients the decoction is relatively more in comparison to other ingredients . This is the distinctive feature of Niroohavasthi. Vasthiyanthraconsists a vasthinetra and vasthiputaka. The vasthinetra (nozzle) is attached to vasthiputaka containing medicine and is introduced into the anal canal during the administration of vasthi. The patient is made to lie on the table in the left lateral position ,with his left leg placed straight and right leg is flexed at the hip and knee is drawn up to the chest.
